We waste food because our DELIVERY system is based on you having money to pay for it. If you have money you got to a store or food chain to buy it. If not, then you go to a shelter. We demonize and shame people who have no money. Is it any wonder that they don't walk in to a place where you're supposed to have money and ask for food? We're being extremely duplicitous and hypocritical. Food, like water, education, and health care should be free. What's the point of health care if you can feed your people? That's just the thing: you can't give food away unless you degrade people first. That's the cost. We make such a great distinction between those who can pay for food and those who cannot. And that attitude will never change unless food becomes free. That's how you eliminate hunger. Asking people to donate does not work. People are too selfish. Companies are too selfish. We are all too selfish. We need to change the paradigm. It doesn't cost a lot to feed a person per day. We spend a TON of money for people in prisons. They may not have their freedom, but they do get three squares and a cot. Why can't we do that for people who HAVEN'T committed a crime?
