Devoting yourself to your music is great, but do it with eyes wide open. Know that chances are you will be your biggest fan and that NO ONE will truly GET YOU. Stop trying to please people other than yourself. There's nothing more sad than listening to a track you wrote 20 years ago and realizing that you don't like it because it featured the idea of someone else and wasn't done the way you wanted. Make the music you want.

Life is way too short to compromise. And here's the thing about compromising: You're not just giving up on your style, you're also giving up your time. Time that could be spent doing your own thing the way you want it. If you have something other people want, that will be apparent. But basically, do your own thing whatever that happens to be.
Be one in a million, not one of the millions.
